The Little Lies, by Marie. F. Crow is a unique paranormal fantasy story that follows the journey of Harper Buckland, a death witch who uses her powers to help families find closure after their loved one’s untimely death. She works with her GiGi at her shop named Great Hexpectations where they cater to the town’s secret obsession of potions and trinkets. Harper is thrust into a world full of vampires, werewolves, and demons when a little girl is raised from the dead by someone other than herself. She must find the truth before it finds her.
At the beginning of the story, Harper reveals that she indeed can see the spirits of those lingering around with unfinished business on a blind date set up by her GiGi. She was a character that you couldn’t help but relate to throughout the story. She’s the one friend that we all have in our lives. The one you can’t take anywhere for fear of what she’ll say next. Throughout the book the author weaves a story of discovery and growth. You follow Harper as she struggles to grasp the unknown that has suddenly been dropped at her front door. You watch her grow a little stronger with each step that she takes towards the truth finding power she didn’t know she possessed.
The character Jedrick is introduced a few chapters in. He keeps Harper and her sassy mouth out of trouble by being the biggest and baddest demon in the room. His smart wit and charm can only rival Harpers sharp tongue and one-liners. The two are an unlikely pair as they both are determined to fish out the guilty party and put the dead back to rest.
Throughout the story you find yourself drawn into this new world masterfully created by the author. It feels as you are walking along the path with Harper as she stumbles around trying to find where she belongs as Jedrek dangles her like fresh meat to a hungry pack of werewolves. The Little Lies has just the right amount of intrigue, and action, Marie F. Crow’s characters will quickly pull you into their world, and you will not want to leave.
